About
Sedum & Sage is a boutique flower farm tucked into the rolling rural hills of Wayne County, Iowa. We may be a micro farm — growing on less than an acre — but small land doesn’t mean small dreams. Unlike traditional row crop farming, flowers allow us to cultivate beauty, abundance, and impact without sprawling acreage.
This land is deeply personal to us. It’s part of our family’s heritage, passed down from Sage’s grandfather, and we’re proud to carry forward the legacy of family farming — even if our version trades corn and cattle for armfuls of blooms.
Located 20 minutes east of I-35 and about 10 minutes north of the Iowa/Missouri border, our farm sits high on a hilltop. As you wind down the gravel road, you’ll likely be greeted by grazing cattle in the pasture, owned by Sage’s brother and grandfather — a reminder that while our farm looks a little different, its roots run generations deep.
Our Story
Sedum & Sage Grow Co. was established in 2024, but its roots were planted long before that. I’ve been obsessed with flowers for as long as I can remember. From a young age, my grandma and mom took me to the greenhouse each spring, where I’d carefully pick out my own flowers for the summer and learn how to plant and tend to them. That green thumb has been in my blood since the day I was born, lovingly nurtured by the women in my family who taught me patience, care, and the quiet joy of watching something grow.
That love for growing found new life in early 2024 in an unexpected location— our basement. My husband Cody had received a large indoor greenhouse as a Christmas present from my parents. What was meant to be his gift really turned into mine. It became my oasis during a season when my corporate job felt heavy and joy felt hard to come by. What began as a simple hobby—growing a few vegetables in my basement greenhouse—quickly turned into curiosity about growing my own flowers. I bought seeds, tilled a few rows in our yard, and transplanted those first blooms outside. In early July I made the last-minute decision to create a business plan, set up a flower farm stand and sell bouquets. Opening day of Sedum & Sage was July 20, 2024, and I’ll be the first to admit I had no idea what I was doing. But I was taking the first small steps towards the life I wanted to live.
By year two, I found my rhythm—my artistry, my style, and my passion for creating joy through flowers. I established a customer base and started hosting events at the farm. As we enter year three, Sedum & Sage is no longer just a hobby to escape my 9-5 stress. I left that toxic corporate job and found the perfect part-time position as a work-from-home accountant for churches and non-profits. Four days a week I am helping others with their missions and ministry through numbers. Three days a week I am focused on my flowers- where my heart is.
Every bouquet you buy and every event you attend helps move this dream forward—one step closer to building a life rooted in purpose, creativity, and faith. More than flowers, Sedum & Sage is about creating joy, fostering connection, and offering moments of beauty that bring our community together. When you support this farm, you’re not just buying blooms—you’re helping grow something meaningful.

We believe in living life as naturally as possible in our personal lives, and we bring that same philosophy straight into the flower field. At Sedum & Sage, we grow organically, source our seeds and plugs with intention, and focus heavily on building healthy soil so our flowers can grow bold, vibrant, and strong. Every bloom is harvested by hand, carefully cleaned and conditioned, then arranged into bouquets that are never cookie-cutter. Each one is a little different, full of personality, and thoughtfully made…much like the people they’re created for.

Creativity, authenticity, kindness, and integrity shape the way we grow, create, and connect. These aren’t just words- they’re the foundation of everything we do. At Sedum & Sage, we believe in creating joy, beauty, and moments of light in a world that often feels heavy.
We do this work with intention, heart, and faith, striving to let Jesus’s light shine through everything we do and everything we create- from the soil to the finished bouquet.
Meet the Founder
Hi, my name is Sage Hinson—I’m the “Sage” behind Sedum & Sage Grow Co. My husband, Cody, is also part of this journey, though he’s more behind-the-scenes, keeping things running smoothly around the flower farm.
I started Sedum & Sage in early 2024 as a way to manage stress and spend more time with my passions—flowers, being creative, and the simple joy of making beautiful things. Watching someone’s face light up when they pick up a bouquet? That’s the best part.
A few fun facts about me:
I’m a proud dog mom to Rizzo (our chocolate lab) and Rip (our energetic Aussie)—you’ll probably hear them before you see me if you stop by the farm stand!
I’m a lover of good books, slow mornings with hot tea, thrift shopping, hiking, and time spent in nature.
I’m a big fan of home decorating & all things HGTV.
I’m an aunt to the sweetest nephew, Kinder. He's my little bestie & I'm working to pass on my love of plants to him. He's currently a big sunflower guy.
I've been deemed the hippie of my family. I'm into all the "woowoo" things like herbal remedies, essential oils, biohacking, & all things clean/natural.
I love Jesus & started this business as a way to let His light shine through me.
